In this months newsletter I want you to consider the diverse range of employee dishonesty that can take place in the workplace. We will usually think of theft and fraud, we think of an employee raising false invoices, false suppliers, procurement or expense fraud. Or an employee who steals the finished product, takes cash from someones drawer…
But consider employee dishonesty that may be more civil and contractually orientated, such as theft of your data or being falsely absent from work, skiving off whilst on full pay and working elsewhere. I regularly see cases of drugs use, selling or manufacturing in the workplace. We need to be open and responsive to the reality that employee dishonesty is not always in the most obvious form that we would consider.

We all know the saying: prevention is better than cure. Remarkably in the commercial sector we do not consider the financial and reputational risk that dishonest employees can have on a business and organisation. Businesses often consider that such dishonesty will not happen to them. Putting simple measures in place to disrupt and prevent employee dishonesty will put a company or organisation in a robust position. Prevent and disrupt dishonest employees, before you have to detect them.
A good place to start is my Insider Threat webinar series, which you can find out more on above. Also please share to any to associations, trade bodies, charities or businesses – it’s time for everyone to act on fighting dishonest employees.
